Have you ever heard of brainspotting trauma therapy in Houston?
Maybe you’ve thought of going to trauma therapy in Houston, but the idea of talking for an hour, or telling a stranger your entire business makes you feel sick. You either feel like you have locked emotions or too many emotions. Either way, you want to figure out how to get these emotions under control.
Maybe you’ve been told that emotions are bad or that you’re “Too emotional.” And so you’ve learned how to hold it all in. But you feel like you’re gonna explode.
You are a thinker and a super responsible woman. You live by check lists, notes and to do items. But you want to tap into your emotions without all the talking involved. This is where brainspotting therapy in Houston comes in.
What is brainspotting trauma therapy in Houston and how does brainspotting actually work?
Whenever you have an experience- whether it is good, bad or neutral, your body and your brain have to store it somewhere. In the case of trauma or more difficult experiences, sometimes it gets organized in a deeper area of your brain so you don’t have to be weighed down by such harsh experiences every day. Imagine what it would feel like if traumatic memories keep coming up when you’re trying to do chores and get through your busy work day.
But when things are quiet, or you encounter someone or something that reminds you of the traumatic event, your brain lights up and actively wants to process it. This could show up as being guarded constantly, avoiding people, places or things that trigger you, emotional outbursts, tearfulness, fear, freezing, nightmares or even negative thoughts. These are the uncomfortable things that make you want to see a trauma therapist.
As a brainspotting therapist, I can access the location of that part of your brain that stores traumatic memories through your eyes. Why? Because your eyes are already embedded in your brain. And as we access the brain, we allow your body to gently and effectively process the trauma so the memories don’t keep interrupting your day and your life.
Cool right?
Brainspotting therapy in Houston is very similar to EMDR trauma therapy in Houston.
Brainspotting trauma therapy in Houston works well for:
People who have experienced traumaor anxiety and want to heal from it quickly. It’s great because you don’t necessarily have to talk about the traumatic events in detail.
Executives, entrepreneurs and leaders who feel like they are stuck in the decision making process. You want to stop second guessing yourself and quickly get to the solutions part.
Actors, athletes, performers and creatives who feel like they have a mental block. Brainspotting will help you access the part of your brain where all the scary emotions are trapped. Once you process them, your brain can heal.
People who feel like their emotions are controlling them. Your emotions feel HUGE and you want to learn how to appropriately manage them, rather than running away from them.
Here’s what to expect when you work with me
Step 1: Our initial consult call
The first step is our initial 15-minute consult call. We’ll talk about your experiences, why you’re seeking support in counseling, as well as your goals for therapy. That way, we’re super clear on what we want to achieve.
Step 2: Brainspotting therapy sessions (kinda like EMDR trauma therapy)
The idea behind brainspotting is “Where you look affects how you feel.”
Here is a link to a blog post on “How does brainspotting work?” Brainspotting therapy is like the cousin of EMDR trauma therapy. Only you don’t have to talk about the trauma till you’re blue in the face.
During our brainspotting trauma therapy sessions, I don’t do a lot of talking. I give you the space to allow your brain to naturally bring up trapped emotions. In the brainspotting therapy session, I’ll use multiple tools such as biolateral music, a pointer and just the natural gaze of your eyes. This will help you rewire your brain.
In session, I’ll have you naturally stare at a pointer or at a specific location. This allows your thinking brain to quiet down, so that your feeling brain can take over and gently heal the trapped emotions.
Step 3: A healed brain
You feel like you have gently brought up stuff that has been trapped inside your brain for years. Your brain heals from past hurts and processes what it needs to.
